The Bubble Room (Bucket List Item #3)

Yesterday, my grandparents and I took a short trip to Sanibel Island, a small island just off the coast of Fort Myers, FL. It's about a 40-45 minute drive southwest of Fort Myers, but the drive was almost as fun as our time on the island. The drive was beautifully scenic and the bridges you cross to get there are unlike anything you see in the Midwest.

Driving around on Sanibel was jaw-dropping. The beaches are gorgeous, the houses are HUGE, and the shops are adorable. I got a recommendation from a friend to visit a small restaurant called The Bubble Room while on the island. The Bubble Room is actually on the island of Captive, a small neighboring island of Sanibel. Opened in 1979, The Bubble Room is decorated in an eclectic array of vintage toys, posters, holiday decorations, and chandeliers. The chandeliers and strings of bubble lights are what give the restaurant its name. Bubble Lights were extremely popular from the 1950s through the 1970s.

The Bubble Room is known for their decadent cakes. That was the sole purpose for our time here. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST CAKE I HAVE EVER EATEN. I had a butter pound cake that had been soaked in rum for 24 hours, dark chocolate mousse filling, and pecans on top. It was absolutely divine. Not to mention, the slices they give you are roughly 1/5th of the entire cake. They are definitely worth the price.

And they don't pressure you to finish it one bit. They serve it on a Styrofoam plate so that it is easy for them to wrap up and for you to take home when you're full. I still have about half of my slice in the fridge that I am about to eat.

Hello!

What's up, y'all? This blog is going to be every update and adventure that happens during my time here in Florida. For those reading this that don't already know, I've accepted an internship position with Florida Repertory Theatre in Fort Myers, FL. I'll be here for roughly seven months working in costume design, construction, and wardrobe management. I am so excited to be exploring a new part of the country and am super pumped to be this close to Disney World.

Follow my blog to see what I'm up to in the Sunshine State!

Love,
B
